Labors of Love

There are some things that I want to do. That I have been wanting to do. Things that I share as open source software. This is about that.

For as long as I've been doing this, which is 2001 [##DateTime.Today.Subtract(new DateTime(2001, 5, 1)).TotalDays.ToString("n1")##] ago (that wasn't really code that I expected to compile at runtime, but it would have been nice!) one of the things that I have loved is people's willingness, if not eagerness, to share their knowledge. This happens via a plethora of mediums: written (blob posts), video (youTube, TikTok), streams of thought (Twitter), code (open source or blog posts) - this is amazing. This is how I have learned. Which granted, is far from academic, but, well…that's a different post.

I have wanted to be part of that culture since the beginning. Early on, I helped communities do online stuff. It was a D&D driven community. I remember my first logo - it was like 6MBs and would take forever to load on dial-up. LOL. Them were the days.

I feel that “coding” has always had a community about itself. Family. We're in this together. Not sure if that will be true as more folks come to this with the promise of riches (versus doing it for joy, but, again, a post for another day), but we will see.

My Labors of Love

All that being said - these are the things I work or have been wanting to work on.

  • This blog (content)
  • This blog (engine)
  • Toolshed
  • Toolshed.Jobs
  • Toolshed.Mailman
  • Toolshed.Audit
  • Sentinel (needs a new name because there are so many “Sentinels” out there.
  • YouTube Channel - building a real product in real time. Maybe Sentinel? Not sure what this is, but I would to try the whole streaming thing. I'm good looking, I'm funny, I'm humble…
